A Fleurieu weekend with kids doesn’t have to mean spending two days finding playgrounds while the adults wait for bedtime.
There are actually some very good things down here for little people.
Urimbirra Wildlife Experience
Just outside Victor Harbor, Urimbirra is home to kangaroos, koalas, emus, dingoes, wombats, reptiles and plenty more.
There are daily animal encounters, including koala presentations and snake-handling displays, making it one of those easy wins when you’ve got animal-loving kids in tow.
Give yourself enough time to wander rather than trying to race through.
Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram
Some Fleurieu traditions deserve to stay.
Take the horse-drawn tram across the causeway from Victor Harbor to Granite Island, then explore on foot before heading back.
If you’ve got train-loving kids, make the day even bigger by adding a ride on the Cockle Train between Victor Harbor and Goolwa. Both remain part of the region’s current family offering.
Adelaide Biplanes
Woodstock Wildlife Sanctuary
This one lets the adults sneak a little McLaren Vale into the family itinerary.
Woodstock’s wildlife sanctuary is home to rescued native animals, while the broader property combines its cellar door, lawns and dining offering. Woodstock currently promotes wildlife feeding as part of the visitor experience.
Wine country, but make it much easier with children.
And sometimes, just go to the beach.
Aldinga Beach. Normanville. Myponga Beach. Port Noarlunga. Silver Sands.
Pack towels, snacks and approximately three times as many spare clothes as you think you’ll need.
The official Fleurieu family guide currently lists beaches, wildlife, bike rides, boat tours, the Cockle Train, Urimbirra and more among its family-friendly experiences.
Our favourite family weekends aren’t the ones where every hour is booked.
Choose one proper activity, leave room for a beach stop, find somewhere good for lunch and make sure your Sanbis stay has enough space for everyone to come home and flop.
